Project 21:12 Campaign: Defend Public Education
Over the past 18 months, we've talked with hundreds of Exvangelicals about our stories of deconstruction. There are a few themes that have emerged from those conversations -- but few as prevalent as the power of accessing secular public education.
Time and time again, Exvangelicals have pointed to simply having access to information outside of a high-control religious system as a powerful moment of reckoning with that quiet voice inside each of us that had questions all along, but was silenced by those in power. Christian nationalists know this -- which is why they are doing everything possible to destroy public education and to replace it with privatized conservative Christian schooling for all.
We know the danger of this threat -- we know that this vision threatens the safety of all those who espouse different beliefs or hold different identities. For queer and trans kids, for autistic kids and those who learn or move differently, for those who are not Christian, for those who are not white, for immigrant kids, for those who don't speak English as a first language -- the attack on public education is attack on all of them and, through them, on all of us.
